Miss S. here is a religious leader and pastor who is dressed to attend church in this photo. She’s not leading the service but she certainly could — her light dress would keep her comfortable under vestments. I love this outfit. It’s creative, it’s fashionable, it’s fun and yet because of layers and dark colors, it’s also appropriate for a minister. Notice the importance of opaque stockings and knee-high boots here in keeping this look from appearing too bare. Not everyone could get away with that little flapper dress, but S. is a serious enough presence and (frankly!) slim enough to do so. As a powerful advocate for women’s rights (she travels frequently to Africa to work on maternal health care issues), I love that S. embraces such an unapologetically feminine look. The dress says “pretty” and the boots say “But I mean business.”
The necklace is perfection.
Here’s someone who knows how to put together A Look.
