Bathroom Calendar

January 5, 2009 on 1:48 am | In Self Care | 5 Comments

I got this idea from a recent Facebook inquiry from a loyal reader of this blog asking what she might do with FIVE 2009 calendars.

What a lucky girl!
PeaceBang LOVES calendars! She has one on her iTouch, a trusty appointment book, a wall calendar in her office just for prettiness, a dog/cat calendar on the fridge (tracks when they get meds, when they were groomed, vet appts., etc.) and one in the bathroom.

The bathroom calendar is my most personal. I record my weight on it, my work-outs at the gym (or 45+ minute brisk walks with the dog), when I change my toothbrush/mascara/hair color, and any medical conditions worth noting. It is SO helpful to be able to look back over a year and see that you have thrown your back out again in the month of October, that you get cold sores at the same time every third month, or that you exercised 11 times during April but only three times in May. There it is in your own hand, and there’s no guess-work or denial involved.

If you share your bathroom, feel free to invent a clever system of symbols or code to record your details. No one but you needs to know that you’ll be PMSing during Holy Week or that you had heartburn during your entire stewardship campaign. It’s all for your own self-care and self-knowledge, lamb chops.

  2. What a great idea. And if it’s on a hook I can hide it when there are guests ;-) .

  4. Thanks for the suggestion, PB! Here’s what I ended up with:

The “White German Shepherd” themed one is now in my downstairs office at home, because that’s the dog’s favorite place to hang out.

In the kitchen near the sink are the She-roes (no space for writing on, just interesting informational tidbits about fabulous women through the years). That way I can learn something while cleaning the kitchen!

The artsy one went in the breakfast “nook” for everyday use.

and Audubon Society is now on the back of the bathroom door, waiting for my coded ablution reflections (should have been the name of a seminary class, methinks)thanks to the brilliant suggestion of La PB.

The fifth, which would have gone to the church office, if my church HAD an office, was regifted. Shh. Don’t tell anyone.

Happy New Year, PeaceBang, and I hope your leave-taking preparations are going smoothly. Your furries will be just fine without you, no matter what they’re telling you.

    :-)
