In Your Easter Bonnet

PeaceBang’s grandmother was a milliner, and so she is genetically fond of hats. If you’re not a minister and plan to attend Easter services somewhere, won’t you consider wearing an Easter bonnet?

I mean, wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all rocked the Easter church hats like the ladies of the African-American church?

Big hats at Easter should never, ever be worn with a sense of irony or mockery. Don’t do it unless you can do it in style and with flair and confidence.

  1. Well…..I plan on wear my big red hat. It will be so nice to be able to wear a hat after these weeks of going without.

Plus I plan on wearing a big black one this Sunday. yipee! [I knew you wouldn’t let me down, Miss Kim. Brava! – PB]

  2. I’ve already picked my Easter bonnet, which will be covering my chemo-bald head: a pink baseball cap with the word “SMILE” embroidered on the front. It’s not the correct liturgical color to go with my white alb, but I love the message!

  3. My mother and mother-in-law can both rock hats. The pink one above looks very much like my Mom’s style.

I used to wear more hats, fancy and plain, but alas they take up too much room on the bus. I stick with summer casual hats strictly for sun protection now, and wear them only with appropriately casual clothes. I also have a few winter hats for warmth, but no Easter bonnets. Sigh.

  4. I did purchase a lovely Easter bonnet a couple of years ago. I keep trying to encourage friends to join me in a hat-wearing Sunday, but haven’t had much luck. Think I’ll break it out again next Sunday– I do love hats, and have so little chance to wear one!

  5. This brings back memories of summers in VA with my grandmother. She attends a COGIC church and those ladies knew how to rock a hat; I loved it.

  6. My little girl will be wearing a hat! She loves it! And I have a relatively simple black and white hat to go with my dress, but I’m not sure I’m going to wear it. I’m 8 months pregnant and not sure I can drag the requisite panache out of me to wear it (I do wear hats several times a year normally).
