The Benefits Of Buying Regular Toiletries Online
February 23, 2008 on 4:12 pm | In Miscellany, PeaceBang Personal |Dearest pumpkins,
PeaceBang does have to get after her sermon in a moment, but she wants to ask if any of you do your regular shopping for toiletries online. As I get older and time gets dearer and gas gets more expensive, and because I have pretty good brand loyalty and know what needs to be in my medicine cabinet and supply closet month unto month, I am finding that a visit to www.drugstore.com is a good option for me.
There was a time it seemed easy to jump into a CVS or Brooks Pharmacy, or to peruse the aisles at Target or to swing by the grocery store if I ran out of contact lense solution. I have less time and patience for this nowadays, and I find that when I DO “jump into” the local pharmacy, I often leave with impulse buys. So this month, I am replenishing my deodorant, toothpaste, mascara, moisturizer, floss, and a few other items through drugstore.com. As an extra bonus,drugstore.com often stocks discontinued favorites I can no longer find in the stores, like my favorite Max Factor Stretch & Separate Waterproof Mascara. I love that I can go to one website and find what I need consistently, rather than leave the CVS with half of my list unpurchased because they’re low on stock or whatever.
I have only ordered from drugstore.com once before and I don’t remember their packaging as being overly ponderous — I could recycle the box, and the rest of the packaging was the same as it would be in the drugstore (still too much, but that’s a post for another time).
Shipping is free for orders over $49 — this time it was about $6, which seems worth it in time, gas and aggravation.
Do any others out there get your basic toiletries online? Got any hot tips?

We do! For the same reasons as you. I’ve found it’s actually cheaper to order once a month on-line than visit the drugstore where I’m liable to pick up things I don’t need.

I like drugstore.com. I’ve been using them off and on for a few years. I often forget and go to Target instead. Duh. But I’ve ordered plenty of stuff from them, and never had an instant’s trouble.

I confess that I do a lot of shopping online. However, drugstore items are not on that list since I have a Walgreen’s about a 5 minute walk from my house. Otherwise, your idea would be an appealing one.

I order from drugstore.com often. I live in a rural area, no drug store on the corner for me, Target is an hour drive. I have no problem getting past that $49 mark. If I need to I just add an extra bottle of shampoo or something (I have teenagers, we go through a lot!).
My tip is: try the Kiss My Face grapefruit bodywash, it smells wonderful!

I order many, many things online because we are never in the same place for more than a few days. I use an alpha-hydroxy face cream that I buy on-line, but don’t order regular toiletries that way. I went through a period several years ago when I was so busy at work that I ordered groceries online to be delivered. It was great.
If it saves you time, hassle and money, go for it.

Hey, off-topic, but how about Anne Hathaway’s red dress at the Oscars? Hope we’ll get Oscar reviews from you. I only looked at a few stills online, I have to work and can’t watch the show…

My personal favorite was Tilda Swindon’s with the masses of shiny black fabric, one huge hideous sleeve, the other sleeve missing altogether, like it had been in a farm accident. Beyond snark, though, how ’bout Jon Stewart’s hosting? Very funny, but also full of heart.

i use amazon.com - if you go through npr’s site in boston, it makes a donation to npr plus you can set up on some items ‘recurring’ orders (i did for luna bars) that are actually cheaper and sometimes wave shipping.
the only thing i have yet to find it profitable for is cat food/litter. no such thing as free shipping on those items.
