When I Say Bootcut Yoga Pants, This Here Is What I Mean

It’s a stupid thing, but I have such a thick layer of blubber (decreasing every week! But still a major tire topped by another major tire!), I am really devoted to pants that have a definite wide leg to balance out the girth at my abdomen. So although I do actually have a pair of the fleece Just My Size workout pants (which I almost never wear because I think it’s bad for the spirit to wear clothing that makes us hate our bodies), I wanted to show you what cut I am referring to when I say “bootcut:”

I am currently in conversation with a 5′ young female pastor who needed advice about how to dress for pre-candidating. I hope she’ll let me post our exchange, as well as my advice that she THROW AWAY her faded, tapered ankle jeans that were making her cute shape look way more pear-shaped than it needed to be. As will, I hope, the gal who wrote to me to tell me that her brother and his fiancee actually expected her to serve as both officiant AND bridesmaid at their wedding!! You can imagine that PeaceBang had a few gentle opinions on THAT one!

  1. …or a friend of mine asked if I, a priest, could perform a non-religious wedding ceremony…

Nice pants, though, and I think boot cut is the thing for those of us who don’t have looooong, slim legs. It just balances things out, and makes the legs look longer.

  2. I was an officiant and bridesmaid in my sister’s wedding! I wore the robe for the service and the dress for the pre-pics and the reception. It was a blast. Congrats on having a close enough relationship w/ your siblings that they want you involved in two such significant ways!!

  3. I once was the preacher (though not the officiant, another person did that) at a friend’s wedding and the best man was my ex-boyfriend who was a good friend of hers — I think that qualifies as my wierdest juxtaposition. The wedding had exactly five people at it, plus one dog as I recall. And the people getting married were one clergy and one future clergy. No catering involved since it was so small — and I think by then the ex and I were speaking again…

  4. P.S. Boot-cut pants make me look fat. Somehow the slightly tapered look works for me, as long as the top has a kind of trouser pleated thing and isn’t all tight. It falls more gracefully. If I wear boot-cuts I feel like a footed wine glass.
