Bows: Not So Easy

Bows are all the rage right now, but as this little photo gallery from today’s Boston Globe shows, while bows can be elegant, sometimes they just make a gal look like a big wrapped up mess.

PeaceBang has a few bow-items in her wardrobe at this time, but nothing demure and nothing white (too dressy, best for evening wear). Be careful with bows, clergy women: they can be a bit too girly or they can look unintentionally 80’s — not in a chic way, but in a wait-I-forgot-to-join-the-21st-century-way.
None of the items featured in the Globe are appropriate for a minister’s work wardrobe, but if you feel a hankering for the bow keep an eye out for more office-appropriate looks, like this (I hate the print — it gives me brain damage — but something LIKE this but not sheer, and worn under a snappy little blazer):

  1. Ugh, those Boston Globe photos are HORRIBLE. Who wears this stuff?

A giant bow tied directly beneath the bosom definitely does not lend credence to your ministerial words.

And bows tied in the back are lumpy when one sits down and leans back. I had a cute dress that I recently gave away because of the uncomfortable back-bow thing.

Beware the bow; tread carefully in its presence.
