This lovely lady has not consented to appear on this blog, so I have edited out her face. That doesn’t mean that those of you who know her won’t recognize her, but she’s such a perfect example of a very popular liberal clergywoman fashion “look” that I’m going to go ahead and do a PeaceBang intervention here. Lovely lady, whoever you are, please take no offense.
The problem here is that this look is totally early 1980’s and it’s over. It’s over, over, over. The first thing PeaceBang wants to do is get this gal to a hairdresser. Such great hair! Gads, it would be so gorgeous at just below her shoulders!
Girls, we all love the drapey garment thing, and the shawl thing, and the swirly purply thing, but this is all too much. The skirt on its own with a structured jacket and some kickin’ boots, fine. The shawl with a pair of nice trousers, heels and a fitted wool turtleneck with a great belt, terrific. That shirt… well, I don’t like the shirt. I don’t think it’s flattering. I have no recommendations for it because I think that the detail at the waist is dreadfully dated and it needs to be put in the give-away pile.
Readers of this blog know how PeaceBang feels about that kind of sandal. As she has said before, only one minister in the world can get away with that kind of sandal, and he’s been dead for about 2000 years now. If you’re going to wear an ankle-length skirt today, you need a heel of some kind. With all the comfortable wedge heels out there, there’s no excuse to go about in the Jesus-Creepers. They are also, I’m afraid, over.
It looks to me as though this photo was taken at a women’s spirituality retreat. See the woman behind our leading lady? Look how nice she looks in her purple top and interesting belt. She’s wearing a long skirt but she looks elegant and goddessy from the back, and there’s no reason to think she wouldn’t look elegant and goddessy from the front as well.
