Argh, me lads and lasses! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day and I have just come online to tell ye all that PeaceBang continues to have techno difficulties blogging from home. And since she is a crazy maniac girl, she hasn’t been doing any blogging from the office or coffee shops lately, either.

Letters continue apace from my pigeons hither and yon. I encourage you to always check the archives before you write, as you will find there a veritable PIRATE’S CHEST of treasure, pieces of EIGHT, darlings!
Now I’m going to stick my parrot back on my shoulder, throw on my eye patch, don my thigh high boots and jump aboard the Jolly Roger. I actually hate Talk Like a Pirate Day because I have studied the history of 19th century pirates and they were a sadistic, savage lot who were the terrorists of their time. However, I can certainly appreciate the charm of the Disney-fied piratical tradition and my own very favorite Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, “The Pirates of Penzance,” which I have appeared in twice and once as the inimitable pirate’s nurse, Ruth. Here I am in a 1991 production at Minneapolis’s Theater in the Round. One of the most fun costumes and I have ever worn, and I swear I’ve retained a touch of pirate styling every since.
That is a splendid-looking Ruth! “He is a little boy of five. Ha ha ha!” I was weaned on G & S. My father loved the stuff. Meanwhile, I covet the hat and boots.
We miss you, PB! Hope your technical issues sort themselves out and that you’re managing to get enough rest and peace in your busy schedule. 🙂
Yeah, real pirates were and are simply armed robbers and murderers, and are not a fit topic for romanticizing, but hey, Johnny Depp. JOHNNY DEPP!
