How did Palm Sunday go?
I wrote on my PeaceBang Facebook page that church was so great it made me want to roll around in the grass like a dog. Someone suggested that perhaps I should spend a bit less time with my beagle, and I had to agree.

Okay, so listen. PeaceBang was having a bad hair day that went on for, like, a YEAR. Seriously. I have difficult hair. It is fine, thick and wavy and tends to just hang there looking greasy at the roots and dry on the ends. For some reason I am just TOTALLY SO OVER having really short hair — probably because I’ve had it pretty much all my life and I wanted a break from having to blow dry and style it every day. I grew it before I went on sabbatical so I could wear pigtails and bandanas in Nicaragua and while on the road in Turkey and Greece and stuff, which was great.
ANYWAY, I do know that hair loss shampoo can make a big difference in how your hair behaves, so I’ve tried lots of different things. I’ve used Bumble & Bumble Coconut. I’ve used a Nexxus formula for fine hair (with volumizing!). I’ve used Redken for colored hair. All the same problem: no real body, hair greasy after one day, dry on the ends.
(Some of you will recall the whole Curly Girl episode of my life where I let my hair dry naturally after scrunching it with various curl-creating products, and that works really nicely in the summer when there’s plenty of humidity. I also have to have a good haircut to make it work).
So the other day I go into a salon and I ask for HELP. I end up meeting this really nice man stylist and we talk about religion and he says he would really like to come to my church and he also sets me up with a Kiehl’s shampoo product that actually works SUPER WELL.
This stuff is different. It doesn’t suds up like other shampoos because it doesn’t have sulfates. And the conditioner is very concentrated so I just use it on the ends of my hair. It smells absolutely glorious – like apricot oil (which is an ingredient), and it moisturizes but doesn’t weigh the hair down, which had been the problem with the other ‘poos I had been using.
So this is high-end price-wise (not as high as the other stuff I looked at in the salon, but definitely more expensive than drugstore brands), but for the first time in a long time I am not in hopeless despair about how crappy my hair looks every day.
A small price to pay, I would say.
I have similar hair, and kept it short for decades. Have grown it out in last 5 years. Also try many products, and as I get older, it gets very dry on ends and oily by scalp. The best product (and much cheaper than the salon versions) that I’ve tried recently is Pantene Curls, separate shampoo and conditioner. Give it a try if you haven’t already. I also sometimes use Curl definition and Creme styling products when it is too frizzy, but then have to wash more often. It is amazing how your hair changes with time; I used to wash every day; now twice a week at most.
I have tried this product which works very well. Like Mary, my hair has also changed over time. When I was younger it was oily and I had to shampoo every day and it was very fine & straight; now it’s dry so I condition every day & only shampoo once or twice a week. It is also not limp anymore, which I think results from coloring it and also from chlorine & salt from going to aqua aerobics 4 days a week.
