Just One Bright Colored Feature On Yer Face At A Time

PeaceBang LOVES to have fun and take risks with colorful make-up, but she’s always careful not to do a really bold color on more than one feature. Today she is wearing crazy aqua eyeshadow (I like it!), but her lips and the rest of her face are neutral. If I wore this eyeshadow with, say, pink lipstick I might look like I was ready to host “Bozo The Clown.” As it is, my hair makes a strong enough statement to warrant care in the colorful make-up department.

I ran across this photo of former “Project Runway” designer/contestant Laura Bennett and I thought, “Now there’s a great example of bold make-up on a gorgeous lady with a vibrant hair color.” What I particularly like about this example is that Laura is ignoring the stupid old advice that redheads shouldn’t wear red lipstick. That’s so dumb. You wear what looks good on you and flatters your skin, communicates your image, and makes you happy.

Laura Bennett

(I’m not so into the dress — GREAT style but the color is bland and the chest too exposed for my taste — but I love her.)

Blue Eye
(I look like a llama snouting for some lettuce).

PeaceBang is starting to get the impression that some of her pigeons should really take a chance with a pop of color on the face. There’s far too much loyalty to clear lip balms and glosses out there. Try something more sophisticated, girls!! Especially if you’re over 35.

  1. I’ve become tired with my clear/pale gloss for summer. I’ve discovered a great lipstain by cover girl. It looks like a marker, and you can really layer it on for an intense stain, or just put a little on for sheer color. Plus, it lasts much longer than gloss and full-coverage lipstick.

  2. I’ve always liked lip liner pencils for the same reason–longevity. Plus, men can use it and it won’t turn orange or magenta on them. It really does look nice on you, guys, just use it lightly. (Ah, the things you learn doing theatre for these many years…)
I like Ms. Bennett’s dress, and she can stand the chest exposure, but I wish it were a deep blue or green, with a sparkly necklace at the throat.
