let’s not wear jeans to church on the Sabbath, okay?
Even if they’re stylish, and even if we’re scheduled to spend the morning with the squirts down in Sunday School.

I would dispute, and argue that Calvin has no place in a UU Church.
I would agree that Calvins are no appropriate Sunday wear, but may not be appropriate Soulful Sundown wear for the worship leaders.
I would also point out at this time that the custom jeans factory in New York that is featured on “What NOT to Wear” now and then would be a good place for ministers to get a couple pairs from. I plan to, as I’m increasingly grumpy with the denim based bifurcated garment offerings available off the rack.

Now here’s a mind bender. How would a nudist UU pastor express his or herself appropriately before the congregation during Sunday service?
I suppose one can still accessorize. But to do so tastefully is the challenge.
Piercings don’t count.

I wear jeans all the time to church on Sunday, often even when leading our afternoon service.
I do however wear dress pants when speaking on Sunday mornings.

I used to be a big jeans person to church (as a congregant). I’ll admit that every now and then I still do, but I’ve been getting more and more in the custom of wearing khakis. They’re flattering enough, they’re actually more comfortable than jeans, and they look clean and stylish.

Hmm. I think that this needs more effective argumentation, PB.
This seems less a statement of what is bad fashion (as in it makes one look shabby or frumpy or…) and more a statement about one’s inability to accept a certain fabric or material as being appropriate.
Were we talking spandex biking shorts, I’d see the point.
Perhaps it’s my casual West Coast attitude and my casual, homey congregation’s attitudes. People would be appalled at something as gauche as clipping toenails in service. But growing faint if someone wears clean denim pants in good repair and a presentable, tasteful shirt or blouse?
Good taste is one thing, worshipping a golden calf of formal clothing is another.
