Scrubby Day

Sometimes you just hit that day where you CANNOT.
You got up very early to work on some things.
Sadness has hit those close to you and that has stolen some sleep.
You can’t wear anything structured because you just couldn’t live up to a blazer or pencil skirt today.
You want to be warm and speedy.
But you’re going to stop in and do some stuff at the church and you can’t just throw on leggings or yoga pants or jeans and a sweatshirt.

Here’s my favorite kind of outfit for that sort of day:

Cotton funnelneck sweater by Lands End, who deserve hugs and kisses for finally putting longer, 100% COTTON fisherman knit sweaters in their catalog. YAY! I need sweaters to be at least 28″ long, people. You should know your best length, too. It saves tons of time when shopping online (which is how I do 95% of my clothes shopping now).
Pants by Lands End, several years ago. They feel like sweats but they have a zipper and clasp and are proper pants.
Throw on a scarf. It’s comfy and it doesn’t add any burden but looks nice. I got this Halloweeny one in London.
Hoop earrings, a swipe of eyeliner and lipstick and nothing else but sunscreen. I can’t even bother with mascara today.
Ponytail (the hat is just for walking the dog).
Specs by Warby Parker, $100.
Shoes by Fluevog (bought on eBay).

Now I’m a comfortable minister who is ready to get stuff done. May make a hospital visit, may just write a lot and work with staff. Having lunch with a community organizer. I picked a place that would not require that I show up fapitzed. I know she’s very tired, too, and sometimes you just want a little Cambodian restaurant where you can sip tea and strategize social change in your comfortable sweaters.

These clothes are all very, very casual and very, very comfortable. There is no need to go about our business in pajamas. As my mother never said, but your mother probably did, “Get dressed. You’ll feel better.”

  1. You look great. I on the other hand, sinned a great sin in what I went out of the house and to my office in yesterday. I’ll do better. Tomorrow. [Um, I feel like you’re just being a big tease here. I am dying to know what you sin-wore. LOL – PB]

  2. Verily, verily, what Mother Bang hath not saith unto you but others have spoken is so true – you do feel better when you get dressed!! Thanks for timely reminder – and great pics!
