A Letter From South Carolina

Dear PeaceBang,

Thank you so much for your incredible ministry. I’ve been a loyal reader for years now. I serve in North Charleston, where the murder of Walter Scott happened, less than 2 miles from our church. As I was dressing to go to the demonstration yesterday morning, I was asking, “What would PeaceBang wear? What clothes send the message that the religious community is here and paying attention?” I ended up with my blue WomenSpirit cleric paired with my black knee length skirt and black shrug. It was classic, clean, not fancy but looked appropriate and put together. I was grateful for your guidance and mentoring from a far.

Thank you! And please pray for us down here in South Carolina.

Blessings,
Wendy

This is why I do this, folks.
Wendy and I exchanged e-mails this morning and I told her that I am indeed praying for her and her wider community.
Blessings on all of you in your ministries today.

  1. Many blessings on Wendy’s ministry. These sound like the same thoughts that ran through my head when Michael Brown was shot in Ferguson. And of course our conversation was pastoral and lovely and about way more than what I chose to wear. (Which was also hugely important to me.) Thank you so many times.
