It’s All Engineering

Hello, Cookies!
I am on vacation visiting MotherBang and reading a marvelously dishy book about Hollywood costume designer Edith Head. I’m blogging on my iPad so I won’t provide a link but it’s “The Life and Times of Hollywood’s Celebrated Costume Designer Edith Head” David Chierichetti. It isn’t well-written at all but it’s full of really fascinating tidbits about how Edith had to work with the figure flaws of mega-stars like Dorothy Lamour, who had a big butt and thighs, and Bette Davis, who believed that bras with wires in them would give her cancer and refused to wear them, and whose own bosoms hung almost to her waist. Creative engineering! That’s what good dressing is, darlings, and nothing but if you’re a woman with curves and swerves. Get this: Loretta Young, who had a lovely long neck and slim figure, got it into her head that her neck was too long and had her costume designers raise her shoulders by using a foam rubber form under her clothes! Wackadoodle, fascinating stuff.

I’m going to be here for a few days, talking Hollywood and theatre and all things fun and girlie with MotherBang and SisterBang which is just what the doctor ordered, isn’t it? The news is very sad and we have far too much to pray for. I wish you all well with maybe some time off for inconsequential, relaxing time with people who make you laugh. Blessings, and kiss of peace.
