Darlings! We’re having a Pop Culture Moment here at BTFM this morning!
I must scamper off like a little bunny in a moment but I want to alert you to this story by BuzzFeed, which you are far too intellectual and serious and deeply soulful and pious to EVER look at, which is why PeaceBang peruses it on YOUR BEHALF. Sometimes illuminating things come from BuzzFeed, they really do. But when they don’t, it’s still wicked fun. So there.
This story is about how very famous people manage their public image, which is that they hire professionals to do it for them. In this case, amazingly talented, hard-working and super famous singer Beyonce rocked it out at the Superbowl halftime show (did you see it? That was a LOT of hair getting whipped around) and as you can imagine, photographers captured her in full Warrior Entertainment Woman mode. I think these are fascinating images and even important ones, as they show the force of this woman’s energy and discipline as a performer.
That’s what a woman looks like when she’s working hard. That’s what a woman looks like when she’s concentrating and bringing her full powers to bear. I’ll bet you a bucket of popcorn that Miss Bey made some of these same expressions when she gave birth to her first child recently. Yes, and even to the pelvic power stance.
This is what a strong and powerful woman looks like when she’s not carefully composing her features into a non-threatening demeanor and smoldering for the camera to appeal to the almighty male gaze. This is a woman in her element, and she looks scary because she IS scary, in the best possible way. If I was her publicist I would be spinning these photos in just that way, not trying to suppress them. Beyond is bringing the fierce and these photos capture the intensity of her performance. Brava, I say. Let’s see more of this!

Awesome! Fierce!! Love it!!!
Did you see Stephen Colbert’s bit about Beyonce’s half-time show? Hilarious!
Here’s an interesting theory, that this was a kind of intentional PR jujitsu: http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2013/02/06/beyonce_s_unflattering_super_bowl_photos_publicist_fails_in_attempt_to_remove.html
I see some of Tina Turner in those pix. Bring it on, girl!
Here’s a link to a thoughtful, powerful reflection on the same topic: http://marciglass.com/2013/02/07/what-to-wear/
Part of me wants to give the PR firm kudos for keeping Miss B in the public focus for the last week. (The halftime show could have been pushed aside in the media by the power outage, otherwise.)
Telling a buzzy blogsite to take down photos, remove comments or stifle remarks about a client is like a WET PAINT sign.
She is a fierce performer–no doubt about that.
