Bangs Photos

These are bad bangs. They looked like a DYI project that went wrong, and badly upset the balance of the face.

These are also bad bangs. They’re silly and dated. I hope this is an old photo. What a pretty gal — but no woman in a position of power should sport a ‘do like this.

These are bad bangs of the type I saw on two church websites this week … on clergywomen. Straight out of the 80’s (and in fact, this image does come from the 80’s!). Grow those puppies out or pin them up.

These are GOOD BANGS:

There are a LOT of unflattering bangs out there. I see photos every day of clergywomen who would look a lot better if they grew their hair out and got rid of the limp little fringe on their foreheads (it won’t take that long to grow it so it can be pushed to the side in a more mature and striking look). That’s not nearly as bad as the Truly Bad Bang, but it’s something to consider. The Chopped-Off-Kind-Of-Mannish Hair just doesn’t do anyone any favors, and yet that is by far the majority hair style among clergywomen.

  1. Hmm… I have bangs, don’t know if they’re good or bad but they are necessary! I have these frown lines and a birthmark, both of which seem to be getting more pronounced as Lady Estrogen slowly seeps out of my body. You see, I am of a “certain age.” The long, straight, gorgeous hair of my youth is, sigh, no longer an option – my hair just gets brittle when it gets much past my chin.

It’s tough to grow old gracefully, although I am not yet like Sarah. But, I’m as vain as I ever was – even as a pastor.

  2. Of course Reese Witherspoon would look good with any hair. I need a new style, even have an appointment, have no idea what I will ask for tho.(Note to self: no bad bands, no chopped-off-kind-of-mannish-hair)
[So true! That's what I thought to myself when I posted that photo! See also Jennifer Garner for great bangs. - PB]

  3. Great point. I’ve been struggling with my own bangs, since I don’t want to see a hair stylist to have them trimmed every two weeks. Just recently I made them much thicker, so at least they look like deliberate bangs and not wimpy fringe.

  4. I have never had bangs. My forehead is too small!

  5. Gabriel, you can trim up your own bangs in between stylist visits. Pull your longer hair back and secure it. Comb your bangs straight down and hold them tight. Take small, very sharp scissors and, holding the scissors vertically, make tiny cuts up into your bangs. Never cut straight across. My stylist (a good friend of mine) taught me this trick. I get my hair cut every 6 weeks and generally do this around week 4.

  6. I had blunt bangs, but they were a pain when they grew out, so now I have sideswept bangs. My stylist does a free bang trim in between visits too, which is nice.

  7. I have bangs, but NEVER curled. The rest of the cut reminds me of a 20’s bob yet somewhat like some of the Vidal Sassoon cuts of the sixties. (It is the same length on both sides, like the bob, though, as I don’t believe in uneven hair.) I have the “right” kind of hair for this and with a good cut, all should fall into place with no blow drying or hair products involved.

  8. For the love of Sarah Jessica Parker! I guess The Waitresses were right: “One size does not fit all!”

  9. Peace Bang, why are they called BANGS? A little etymology here?
My bangs go squirrelly in high humidity. (…who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead…)
[Good question, kid! I have NO idea! They were originally called a "lunatic fringe," if you remember your "Little House On the Prairie" books well. Ma was all upset that Laura wanted to cut bangs. It was, like, scandalous. - PB]
