Bumble Bees,
I am having a bit of luck getting more energy with the following habits:
1) A smoothie for breakfast with a tablespoon of flax seed oil in it.
2) A multi-B vitamin (that doesn’t bother my stomach!).
3) A Claritin for allergies when I need one (gotta give in to pharmaceutical help when it helps this much!).
4) More seaweeds and sea vegetables (thanks to Kristina Turner’s The Self-Healing Cookbook for this tip).
5) More water, less iced coffee.
6) No sweets or crunchy/salty snacks at home (I indulge when I’m out).
7) Greek yoghurt with a bit of honey or a small bowl of Stawberry Fields cereal for a snack.
8) GO. TO. SLEEP!! Before 2 AM!
9) GET UP before 10 AM!
10) Walk the dog for an hour a day unless it’s killer hot out… or at LEAST 30 minutes. Throwing the ball for him to catch while I stand there doesn’t count!
It’s not a diet. It’s because I have been feeling lousy lately and the doctors have confirmed that I’m feeling lousy for legitimate reasons. Nothing real serious, but serious enough to make changes and stick to ’em!!
I’ll be blogging less for the next month or so. In the meanwhile, enjoy the archives and Go be beautiful!
You take care. I just went to the doctor today to get some antidepressants and a referral for counselling. We’ve got a very bad work situation that’s been ongoing almost since I’ve been in this job (a year), swarming around our Principal Tutor, who is the colleague from hell (on his better days). I’ve had a rough year of my own without him, and this has been grinding.
So, what you need to do, you need to do. I’m on two weeks’ annual leave, and hoping to come back to work stronger.
Being healthy is very beautiful. I am a big proponent of Vitamin D. Either sunshine or a Vitamin D pill or both. We have to take care of us who else will?
Try this for some energy:
1 small whole grain tortilla, spread with a tablespoon or so of any natural, no sugar added nut butter you like (peanut, almond, whatever), 1 tsp honey or agave nectar, and one small banana. Roll up and eat!
When I have more time to type I will send you a recipe for homemade protein bars that are cheaper, much more healthy & better tasting than anything you can buy. Great for an afternoon pick me up when energy is flagging.
There’s a great one for protein bars on stumptuous.com

I use unflavoured whey protein powder, and add a bit of cocoa powder and a banana for a gooey chocolatey thing. Mmmm.
@Wendy: That sounds awful! I hope your two weeks off are amazingly relaxing and refreshing, and that your Principal Tutor has a personality transplant while you’re away. 🙂
I love how your number 8 turned into the cool smiley. I struggle with chronic pain, somedays it just sucks the life out of me. I will be checking out your tips. tfs.
Victoria,
This may seem very California-ish, but have you ever considered NAET, it’s accupressure, which deals with emotional and physical allergies. It is quite powerful. They also use flower essences. As I said, it may sound somewhat newagish, but I have to say it has helped me deal w/things in ways therapy could not even touch. Just a thought. HOpe you are feeling spiffier!
