HEY!!! Let's not dis Buttercup, okay? I was a fabulous Buttercup back in the spring of 1961 at Wellesley High School, even though I couldn't hit the high note and the choir director had to re-write that particular chord for me.

All part of my fifteen minutes...

[Wait a second! I thought Buttercup was supposed to be quite enormous, like Henrietta the Hippo! That's why I was offended (also, I thought she was a high soprano). I've never seen "Pinafore," though.. so I didn't know she could be cute. Sorry! - PB]

Ha HA, BJ! As it so happens, I played a "delicious"* Ruth in a Minneapolis production of "The Pirates of Penzance" in 1992 and I know all about being a fabulous Pirate Queen from that experience. Buttercup AIN'T ME, doll.
*according to the theatre critic at the Minneapolist Star-Tribune who gave me a fantastic review

Yeah, really mixed feelings about Halloween, but my toddler is invited to go trick or treating with a friend. So my husband hatched the BEST idea over dinner tonight: daughter will be little red riding hood, I'll be grandma, and he'll be the wolf. Simple and hopefully hilarious! Please do post a picture of your pirate get-up.

Dear PeaceBang,

Long time reader and promoter of your blog here.

How 'bout this as a clergy friendly alternative to Halloween revelry?
http://megsoapbox.blogspot.com/2007/10/you-are-invited.html
It has certainly been a seminarian friendly alternative!

Also, dressing as a Reformer is significantly less limiting than you might think. Two years ago I went as Gloria Steinem and, this year, a 1950's housewife (In a world full of flappers, swing dancing and Rosie the Riveter, don't think the June Cleavers of the world weren't busy reforming gender roles in their own image!)
