Beauty Tips for Ministers

Spiky Hair, R.I.P. 1992-2001
August 31, 2007 on 8:02 am | In Hair | I had to stop short when I saw this photo of the usually gorgeous actress Diane Lane:

It’s not just that she looks wan and miserable and that the dress is eating her alive.
That HAIR!!!
Holy mother of GOD, what is UP with that hair? Is Diane researching the role of some selfless social activist circa 1993 who was so invested in Burmese workers’ rights that she was above looking good? Will this be her Ugly Oscar Role, like Charlize Theron got for tricking herself out in acne, oily hair and buck teeth for “Monster?”
I just hope so. I really do, because Diane Lane is a beautiful woman with gorgeous hair and her stylist should know that spiky do’s are way out of fashion now and have been for a few years.
Yes, I mourn them too, as they’re easy to maintain and require no styling. However, if you’re willing to wait it out for another twenty years I’m sure they’ll come back. I mean, if metallic Peter Pan boots came back, I’m sure spikey hair will, too.
(Thanks to Gofugyourself.com for the alarming photo).

It’s not just the hair, because after all she still has that great skin and those lovely eyes. It’s that she looks like she just came from the gym and had to throw something on, and this hideous outfit was the first thing she saw. No time for makeup or a bra!
If she were wearing jeans, she’d be very attractive if a little low maintainence. It’s the lack of drama, as much as the hair, that is disconcerting.

OOps, I think she looks fine. I’m not big on animal prints, but I understand they’re back. Sigh. And I can’t see her hair. Oh, well. As for shoes, my church shoes for fall are Mudd (brown) and Skechers (black suede). I don’t really do heels of any kind — I think I’m exceedingly intolerant of discomfort, and have yet to find any sort of heel that doesn’t torture me.

I’m just not a fan of the “black hole in the stomach” accessory.

Sorry, PB, but after 63 years of hating my hair (well, maybe 57 years), I have finally found a hairstyle that I love and that brings “Where can I get a haircut like that?” queries from strangers in coffee shops. It is spikey, spikey, spikey. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I agree with madgebaby — in jeans (and with some rouge and a touch of lipstick, please!) she’d look fine. I don’t mind the spikey hair at all. It’s the overall washed-out-plus-brown look that is not so good. Poor dear looks depressed. And the dress is not.good.at.all. The shoes aren’t much better.

P.S. And I have a better haircut than Diane Lane. It costs me $20 (recently raised from $17) and I drive through cornfields to get to my hairdresser, who operates a one-chair studio in what used to be their garage. Country life, I love it!
