OOO! OOO! sooo glad to have see the clip -- it is wonderful! I fell asleep on the couch trying to wait up for the broadcast (in my professional clothes, no less).
-- A Woman of the Cloth

Yay! So great to see you on TV. Just a delight. And Tim was looking great, too. :-)

Here's a question that's been getting to me as my gray roots begin to show more and more: to dye or not to dye? I'm a young minister (33) who's got more than a few gray hairs. I made a decision a few months ago to stop the expensive hair color treatments and let those grays grow in. My reasoning was that might not only save me money--it might actually add to my professionalism in that the gray hairs would balance out my 20-something looking face to give me a bit more of that age-cultivated moral authority. I haven't really noticed if it has or hasn't. I know you probably don't have a one-size-fits-all answer on this, but do you have any thoughts on the uses and abuses of gray hair among the clergy?

Regardless, I'm always interested to hear your reflections. On just about anything. Keep up the awesomeness.

Thank you so much for getting this for us. My husband and I are both much relieved from our sadness for missing out. (He reads you, too - now if I could just get him to buy himself some new clothes. His dad actually gave him $1,000 and said, "What are those Schmattes you're wearing?" Buy yourself something.) You are divine, my dear. You set just the right note - stylish but not frivolous, funny without being mean. Who knows what's next?

A coat update: I pinned up the monstrous ankle-sweeper and liked it. It is full with a cute Peter Pan round collar, and hemmed just below my knees looks tres '50s. Or so I imagine.

For anyone looking for a cassock like vestment, womenspirit makes one with a high collar and seaming that looks really flattering. It would work with a surplice for those so inclined, I'm guessing.

Kaj, my vestments were designed by Joanne Howard of my congregation, who took her inspiration from images of Puritan divines from our own congregation, with her own creative twist on things. I usually wear a white collar to go with the cuffs but we left it off that day, thinking it might look weird on camera.
My robe is made of jersey cotton, super comfortable. I have a white one, too. Joanne is wonderful: one robe has a Victoria's Secret label in it and the other has a DKNY label. Just for laughs, but when she made me a special robe for my Installation, she snuck a little rock from the original meetinghouse in the pocket.
